LISBON — The Lisbon School Special Services Department, in partnership with the Philip W. Sugg Middle School Parent Action Group and the Lisbon Community School PTO, is sponsoring a series of special education workshops.

* Transition Planning: The Middle School Years, scheduled for 6 p.m. March 19. The workshop is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Sugg Middle School, 4 Sugg Drive, Lisbon Falls.

This workshop is designed to help families who have children in grades 6 through 8 understand the transition process, learn who to contact and when for various services, and understand more about the adult options and choices that are key to a successful transition process.

For questions or to RSVP (to ensure enough materials for all participants), contact Annette Wilson at 207-462-2274 (text is great) or email at [email protected].

* Kindergarten Transition for Children working with CDS, 6-8 p.m. Lisbon Community School Discovery Room. Childcare will be provided by Lewiston High School and Young Adult Volunteers in Cafeteria During Program

Parents and children may feel overwhelmed by the upcoming transition to kindergarten. Preparing for your child’s transition is an exciting and, at times, chaotic journey. For parents of children with disabilities and special needs, the transition from Child Development Services to public school can seem confusing and overwhelming.

* Transition Planning: The High School Years, 6-8 p.m. April 9, Lisbon High School Library.

All parents want their child to be leader of his or her future, but how do you get there? If your child is receiving special education services and is approaching transition age (14 and up), or are already transition age, this is the workshop for you.

All workshops are facilitated by Ann Long of the Maine Parent Federation.
