1933 – 2015

TURNER — Joan L. Seaman passed away after a short illness with her family by her side on Wednesday, March 18, at her home in Turner.

She was born in Gardiner on May 21, 1933, the daughter of Maurice and Helen (Dill) Nuzzo. She attended schools in Wales and graduated from Lewiston High School.

On June 11, 1954, she married Clinton Seaman and together they raised their family.

Jo worked in the family businesses Matthews Auto Supply, Turner Auto Parts and The Great Outdoors for many years. Her home was complete when shared it with a friend, over a cup of coffee and a dog or two under the kitchen table.

She will always be remembered as Mumma Jo to many, including Penny, Ken and Daphne, Amanda and Aaron; as Grammie Jo to Chris and Leah; and Great to one very special little man, Weston. Her closest circle of friends were very familiar with her unpredictable wit and dry sense of humor, including the Stitch and Bitch ladies, Duane and Terry; and many others, too numerous to mention.

Her roots ran deeply in Turner, especially on Pleasant Pond. Her Florida years were complete with memories of fun-filled cruises and pool parties at their home, with her husband and great friends. Later in her life, Mumma Jo was always up for a good game of Scrabble or road trips, looking for the right antique or a cheap yard sale find to regift at Christmas.

She is survived by her children, Mike, Scott, Mary, Phyllis and Larry; a granddaughter, Jessie; and a sister, Barbara.

She was predeceased by her husband and her parents.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lee and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the compassionate care provided to their mother.
