Program on death, funerals

AUBURN — The loss of a loved one is an emotional time that can be even more emotionally draining when lots of decisions still need to be made regarding funeral arrangements. Ultimately, we know death is coming but many of us postpone or never get arrangements made ahead of time.

A free program on preparing for your ultimate demise and funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the Auburn Public Library.

Brought to you through a partnership with Lewiston-Auburn Senior College and the library, the program will begin with a discussion about the legal documents everyone should have in place, then covers planning ahead, writing things down and having a conversation with family about those plans. A question-and-answer session will follow. Topics include funeral options, home funerals, green cemeteries, alkaline hydrolysis, family burying grounds, scattering ashes, the paperwork, etc.

Leading this discussion is Chuck Lakin. Lakin is a woodworker and home funeral educator, whose interest in this topic came from his experience at his father’s death. He wanted to be part of what happened after the death, but didn’t know what to do, and missed out. Now he knows and wants to share that information.
