1923 – 2015

RUMFORD — Fannie E. Polvinen, formerly of Norway, died Sunday, March 29, at Rumford Community Hospital.

She was born in Greenwood in 1923, the daughter of Peter and Esteri (Heikkinen) Kuvaja. Fannie married Kaarlo Veikko Polvinen in 1948, and they raised three children in Greenwood. They later moved to Norway, where Fannie was employed at Cornwall Industries for 16 years.

In recent years, Fannie had been a resident of the Victorian Villa Rehabilitation & Living Center in Canton. Fannie was a member of the Finnish Congregational Church and the Finnish-American Heritage Society for many years.

Fannie is survived by her children, Sylvia Chandler and her husband, Joe, of Stephens City, Va., Alvin Polvinen of Auburn, and Esther Foss and her husband, Sid, of Kenduskeag; three grandchildren, Joal Pratt, Jayne Bristol and Adam Polvinen, all of Hebron; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fannie was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1995; her daughter-in-law, Joanne Polvinen; a sister; and three brothers.
