1924 – 2015

GREENE — Rita M. Fecteau passed away on Tuesday, March 31, after a long illness, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Jay on Sept. 26, 1924, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Wiseman) Couture, and attended local schools in Jay. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, attending many of the Lewiston churches.

Rita married her husband, Gerard Fecteau, on Nov. 14, 1942, and together they raised their family of three boys. They worked together, side by side, for 35 years at Crest Shoe Co. while Rita did a “man’s job.”

She was a private person but loved spending time with her family camping at The Birches and Crescent Lake.

As a young adult, she liked to tap dance and play guitar, and her music appeared on WLAM on a few occasions.

Rita was a kind, loving heart who always looked forward to cooking Sunday dinner for her family, usually making roast beef and potatoes, boiled dinners or tomato rice soup. She also loved the holidays, with Thanksgiving and Christmas being her favorites.

Her cat, Oscar, has been at her side the past four years as she went through her illness, but Mickey and Pal will not be forgotten.

She is survived by her three boys, Richard and his fiancée, Bette Sanborn, of Lewiston, Robert and his companion, Michelle Foley, of Lewiston, and Daniel and his girlfriend, Gladys Smith, of Greene; six grandchildren Michelle, Melissa, Scott, Jeff, Eric and Jason; six great-grandchildren, Haley, Dustin, Serena, Layla, Zachary and Gage; and a sister, Irene and her husband, Roger Maheux, of Brunswick.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerard; and four sisters Jane, Loretta, Jeannette and Jackie.

The family wishes to thank Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the loving care they showed Mom, as well as Dan and Gladys for staying and caring for her, allowing her to fulfill her wishes of being home.
