1928 – 2015

AUBURN — George A. Sanborn, 86, a resident of Pond Road, Wales, died Saturday, April 4, at Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Wales, the son of Ralph and Myra E. (Jordan) Sanborn. George attended Wales schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1947.

In August 1952, he entered the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was discharged in January 1956.

On May 4, 1957, George and Alice Gray were married in Gardiner.

George was a self-employed dairy farmer in Wales, retiring in June of 1993. He was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church, the Maine Farm Bureau, Wales Snowmobile Club and the Couples Club, which would go out every Friday night.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his gardens. George was a BIG fan of the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his two daughters, Julie Ellen Sanborn, of San Diego, and Catherine S. Roy and her husband, Steven, of Wales; a son, Brian A. Sanborn and his wife, Marilena, of Sanford; two sisters, Carolyn Reeverts and her husband, Daryl, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Marilyn Greenwood, of Wales; a sister-in-law, Barbara Sanborn, of Wales; and three grandchildren, Allana Sanborn, Kristin Sanborn and Ellie Sanborn.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Alice, on Nov. 11, 2009; and his brother, David Sanborn, on August 29, 2013.
