1928 – 2015

LEWISTON — Robertine Theresa” Robbie” Dumond, 86, of Spring Street, Lewiston, passed away on Sunday, April 5, surrounded by her entire family.

She was born in Guerette on Aug. 6, 1928, the daughter of Donat and Josephine (Cyr) Lagasse. She was raised in Guerette with her older brother and younger sister. During their upbringing, the family moved to a few places in Maine and eventually settled in Lewiston. She was very close to her siblings and had wonderful parents.

During her teen years, she would go dancing with her girlfriends. On one of these occasions, she met a man who had stopped in Lewiston to visit a friend on his way up north to visit his family. That man, Rosaire Dumond, was so infatuated with her that he moved to Lewiston and became her husband for 67 beautiful years until his passing.

As they began their family, it was decided that she would stay home with the children. When the children were old enough, she went to work at Raytheon in Lewiston until their closing. She also worked at two sock-lining companies, including Ly-Da Stamping Co., from which she retired. That was her favorite place of all her jobs; she loved the company and enjoyed working with the people there.

Robertine loved to knit. Every year, she would make mittens, hat or slippers for all of her family, and even taught one of her granddaughters how to knit. She always had time for her grandchildren. Her special treat for the grandkids was her pumpkin cookies — they were the best. Her roasts and chop suey were also delicious.

She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always had time to listen, if you needed an ear. She was the mother most children would be proud to have. As a grandmother, the memories are never-ending. Robertine and her husband, Rosaire, were fortunate to have been part of a five-generation family on two special occasions.

Robertine and her husband shared a passion for sports. They loved the Boston Red Sox and the Patriots. When she lost her husband three years ago, her son moved in with her and they also shared the same passion for sports. Robertine continued to be active until three months ago. She would join her sister, Mary Jane, and her other lady friends for coffee every day. She always looked forward to that.

Robertine leaves behind a sister, Mary Jane Gervais of Lewiston; one son, David Dumond of Lewiston; two daughters, Jacqueline Goulet and husband, Marcel, of Lewiston, and Pamela Punch and husband, David, of Minot; grandchildren, Lori (Poulin) Kyllonen and fiancé, Clayton Phillips, of Auburn, Todd Poulin and wife, Cindy, of Lewiston, and Tyler and Jessica Punch of Minot; great-grandchildren, Christopher Poulin of Auburn, Megen Poulin of Brunswick, Shayli Poulin and fiancée, Kyle Huston, of Lewiston, Sadie Poulin of Lewiston, and Craig Bernier of Portland; great-great-grandchildren, Eva Poulin of Auburn and Maelah Poulin-Redmun of Lewiston; one sister-in-law, Rita Bosse of Madawaska; stepgrandchildren, Rachel Lebel and fiancé, Pete Couillard, of Auburn, Marc Goulet and wife, Sarah, of Eau Claire, Wis., Michele Holman and husband, Gordon, of Pepin, Wis.; great-stepgrandchildren, Joel and Dylan Lebel, Oliver and Brian Goulet and Emily, Samual and Maxwell Holman.

She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Rosaire “Rosie” Dumond; her parents, Donat and Josephine Lagasse; and her brother, Joseph Norris Lagasse.

The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Central Maine Medical Center Intensive Care Unit for the compassion and loving care they gave our mother and the family. The family wishes to give a special thank-you to Lyse, who cared for our mother in her last moments.
