1919 – 2015
AUBURN — Robert W. Tibbetts, 95, died Wednesday, April 8, at Clover Living Center.
He was born Aug. 3, 1919, in South Portland, the a son of Joseph W. and Ella Carter Tibbetts. He was educated in South Portland schools and graduated from South Portland High School.
Bob worked for the Maine Central Railroad at Portland Terminal Co. for 37 years, retiring Nov. 28, 1979. He worked with his brother, Lawrence, doing carpentry work and lawn care for many years following his retirement.
He was a faithful member of Court Street Baptist Church and was also a member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens.
He enjoyed camping in Naples on Long Lake for many years. He also enjoyed walking. Up until a year ago, he frequently would walk as much as 6 miles a day.
He was a devoted Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching their games.
Bob is survived by nieces and nephews, Marjorie and Richard Brouillette of Auburn, James and Judith Drummond of New Gloucester, and Elwood Arbo of Zephyrhills, Fla. He also is survived by seven great-nieces and -nephews; and 10 great-great-nieces and -nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph E. and Lawrence E. Tibbetts; and three sisters, Mildred Brown, Ella Drummond and Evelyn Tibbetts.
