I am writing to recognize the vital role emergency dispatchers play in providing emergency services to our communities.

Dispatchers are the front line to many unfortunate situations and often have a direct influence on the end result. Whether they pick up the phone to answer a question about a parade route, initiate responders to a fire or robbery, or help someone administer aid to a loved one suffering a heart attack, dispatchers must be mentally prepared and instantly adaptable to help after hearing the first few words of someone’s conversation.

It has never been more apparent that 911 dispatchers are a critical part of our public safety team. Emergency personnel rely on dispatch to provide crucial, accurate information at a moment’s notice. The public trusts dispatchers to send the appropriate resources to resolve their crisis. Without dispatchers’ dedication to their work and their commitment to helping our citizens, emergency responders across the county would be crippled.

As the first person notified of every crime, fire or medical emergency in Franklin County, our 911 dispatchers are invaluable members of our team.

On behalf of the entire advisory board, I ask area residents to join us as we thank them for their devotion to our area departments and their commitment to the citizens of greater Franklin County.

Edward Hastings IV, Chesterville, for the Franklin County Dispatch Advisory Board
