I am writing in response to the article in the Sun Journal April 7 regarding how a specific town committee chose a new fire department chief.
I believe the position of fire department chief should be an elected position by the townspeople. Little by little, residents are losing control of many issues that appear to have been taken over by the town manager and selectmen. Residents are partly to blame when they do not attend town meetings or selectmen’s meetings.
Perhaps, residents should all try a little harder to attend those meetings and really have a say in governing the town. And when it is election time, perhaps townspeople should introduce some new members to be leaders.
On another subject, if I am correct, Steve Brown, the road foreman, resides in Norway. If that is still true, why is he on that committee? There must be residents who would gladly serve if asked.
Hoping others will have some ideas for the town.
