WINTHROP — The Bailey Public Library in downtown Winthrop will celebrate poetry month by hosting Maine poet laureate Wesley McNair at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28.
All library events are being held at the temporary library location on the first floor of the Winthrop Commerce Center at 149 Main St. during construction of the addition to the historic Bowdoin Street building.
During his nearly five-year term as poet laureate, McNair has launched five statewide initiatives in partnership with the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance. “All of them have the same motive,” he says, “which is to make poetry part of the cultural life we all share.”
McNair, who has twice been invited to read his poems at the Library of Congress, will read from his newly released poetry collection, “The Lost Child, Ozark Poems.”
The event is free and open to the public. FMI: 377-8673.
