LEWISTON — City Hall email servers were down Tuesday morning, but the city website, phone service and civic alert messaging system were unaffected.
City IT director Timothy Earle said the Microsoft Exchange server became corrupted during a routine backup Monday night. He said it could take until Wednesday morning to rebuild the database and re-establish email service for city employees.
The email outage effects all city departments — administration, library, police, fire and public works.
Dot Perham Whittier, Lewiston’s community relations coordinator, said residents who signed up for the Notify Me service on the city’s www.lewistonmaine.gov website would continue to get updates on city news and community alerts.
Calling City Hall at 207-513-3000 is also an option.
“It’s just a problem with the email server,” she said. “All the website services we have are fine, and so are the phones. It’s just email messages.”
