BURRILLVILLE, R.I. — William J. Shurick, 88, of Glendale, R.I., passed away Thursday, May 21, at the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I.

He was the loving husband of 66 years to Pauline (Ducharme) Shurick.

He was born in Millville, Mass., son of the late William and Irene (Lamothe) Shurick.

Bill worked as a truck driver for many years and was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed gardening, where he got his nickname, “The Tomato Man.” He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, puzzle books, reading and bird-watching. He was a soft-spoken sweetheart.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, William Shurick Jr. and his wife, Maria, of North Smithfield, and Nancy Belham and her husband, Paul, of North Attleboro, Mass.: five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Theresa Ray; and a brother, Frederick Shurick.
