JAY — Selectpersons on Tuesday will consider approving an agreement to lease the French Falls Recreation Area for $1 a year for 40 years.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. May 26 at the Town Office.
Voters authorized the board April 28 to negotiate a lease for the use of about 10 acres with the Androscoggin Land Trust. The land was formerly owned by Verso Paper Corp.
The town will be responsible to maintain the property on French Falls Lane that runs beside the Knights of Columbus Hall on Route 4. The lease will be good through 2055.
The proposed use agreement covers French Falls Area, Jay Village Area and Dow Field Area. Those wanting to use the fields would need to make a reservation through the Town Office. The agreement also covers rules of use and requires those using the field to provide a certificate of insurance naming the town as an additional insured.
