AUBURN — Auburn Public Library has announced the teen and tween events for the month of June.
Tweens in the Teen Space — Tweens are invited to join in the Teen Space on this final half-day Wednesday of the school year from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3 in the Teen Space. The group will have crafts or board games available, or tweens can stop by to get a head start on their homework or meet with friends. This program is just for fifth and sixth grade students.
Teen Anime Club — The library is inviting teens, ages 12-18, to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime, and try their hand at drawing their own characters from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 3 in the Androscoggin Community Room. Snacks will be provided.
Teens! Friday @ the Movies: The Incredibles — Teen Space will show the movie “The Incredibles” from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 5 in the Androscoggin Community Room. The film touches on the the 2015 Summer Reading Program. This program is just for teens ages 12-18.
Gaming Hour — Teen Space is inviting teens to play video games on Wednesday and Friday, June 10 and 26 from 4 p.m to 5 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. The library has XBox and Wii game consoles. Snacks will be offered. This program is for teens ages 12-18.
Teens! Safe Voices — Teen Space is inviting teens to visit with Julia from Safe Voices from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 11 in the Teen Space. Each month, she will visit the Teen Space to chat about relationships and work on projects. This program is for teens ages 12-18.
Maine Job Corps — Teen Space will host Jill Moody of the Maine Job Corps from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17 in the conference room to explain how the program works and who is eligible.
DIY Teens! Takeover: Summer Reading Bookmarks — Teen Space will host a DIY Summer Reading Bookmarks workshop from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 in the Teen Space. Each month there will be a new project. This program is for teens ages 12-18.
Teen Summer Reading Program Kickoff: Unmask! Community Heroes: Greater Androscoggin Humane Society — Teen Space will kick off the 2015 Teen Summer Reading Program titled “Unmask!” from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 in the Androscoggin Community Room. The program will be looking at real-life heroes within the Lewiston/Auburn community and nationally. The kick off will feature the Greater Androscoggin Human Society. Teens donating dog or cat food will be entered to win prizes. The Teen Summer Reading Program is just for teens ages 12-18, but other family members may attend this event. Teens unable to attend this event but wish to sign up for the summer reading program may do so after June 14.
Teens! Q+A with Outright L/A — The library will host Queers + Allies, a youth-driven education program where people identifying as LGBTQ can work together with straight allies to create a positive, fun space from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 and Monday, June 29. This summer, the Auburn Public Library has partnered with Outright L/A to offer Queers + Allies the opportunity to create an open and relaxed atmosphere where teens can share in self-expression, exploration, support and advocacy for political and social change. There will be games, art projects, guest speakers and field trips. This program is open to youth ages 13-18 (including recent graduates) and meets in the Androscoggin Community Room.
Teens! SAPARS Visit — The library will host Molly from the Sexual Assault Crisis Center at the Teen Space for crafts, games and conversation from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25. This program Just for teens, ages 12-18.
DIY Teens! Media Club — Teen Space is inviting teens ages 12-18 to use the CREATE! Media Lab from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 25. Teens are also invited to join the Media Club. The library will post finished products on its website.
Teens Unmask! Comic Book Workshop with Mike Jordan — The library will host local artist Mike Jordan for a two-session comic book workshop as part of its Teen Summer Reading Program from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 14 and July 21 in the Teen Space. Teens between the ages of 12 and 18 who like to draw are encouraged to join. More information can be found on the program calendar.
“Until Tuesday”: Luis and Tuesday’s Story — The library will host author and Iraq War Veteran Luis Carlos Montalvan and his service dog, named Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 3 in the community room. This event is open to all ages and will include a demonstration of how Tuesday assists Capt. Montalvan in his daily life. There will be a Q & A session, copies of his books for sale, a book signing and photo opportunities.
