Red Eddies June Youth Baseball Camp 2015

The Edward Little High School baseball players and staff invite local youth baseball and softball players to attend the June Summer Youth Baseball Camp 2015 at the Auburn Suburban Baseball and Softball Complex. The camp will be directed by Edward Little varsity baseball coach Dave Jordan. Staff might include members of the Red Eddies baseball team, local coaches/instructors and college players. Youth players will participate in a series of stations to improve their skills with fielding, throwing and hitting. Our goal is to assist each player on improving their skills in a supportive  and fun, learning environment. This camp is a great tune-up as the Cal Ripken, Little League and Babe Ruth All Star seasons get under way.

The camp will run from Monday through Thursday (6/22-6/25) from 1 to 3 p.m.  Cost is $20 per day, three days for $50 or all four days for $60. Mt. Blue Summer Basketball Camp

Mt. Blue High School girls’ varsity basketball coach Gavin Kane and his staff will host a Youth Summer Basketball Camp on June 29, 30, July 1 and July 2. The camp will be held at the Mt. Blue High School gymnasium and is open to all girls who will be going into grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 in the fall of 2015.

Girls going into Grades 4 through 6 will run from  9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. each day. Girls going into Grades 7 through 9 will participate from 10:30 to 12:30. Player fees for the younger group is $25 for the week and $50 for the older group. Players will work on offensive and defensive fundamentals throughout the week, along with brief games and shooting contests.

Veterans golf tournament

NORWAY — Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee (WMVAC) is preparing for the fifth Annual Golf Tournament for Saturday, Aug. 22 at Fairlawn Golf Course in Poland.

In 1995, WMVAC was incorporated with a mission to assist with activities for the residents of the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. Since that time this commitment has grown to annual cost of almost $30,000 per year.

The tournament is a scramble format and starts at 9 a.m. Fairlawn Golf Course has been an integral part of our tournament since its inception and we are extremely thankful to Dave Bartasius and his staff for their assistance.

Registration for the golf tournament is $75 per player. The fee includes golf cart, one mulligan per person and one ticket for the drawing of the chance to make a hole in one from 150 yards. On the 18th hole for $1,000,000 annuity and a meal provided by caterer Joel Kane.

There will be several events as well. AirCannon, a compressed gas cannon on the first hole, will give participants a crack for a chance at a seven-night getaway at over 3,000 locations (travel not included). You will pay $10 and get your shot at being the closet on a 300-yard hole.

Martindale golf clinics

PGA professional Sam Marzenell and Bates College sports performance coach Mike Seltzer will be conducting golf performance series clinics Wednesday, June 24 from 5 to 6;30 p.m. at Martindale Country Club.

Martindale junior golf clinics

PGA professional Sam Marzenell  will be conducting the first clinic from July 7 to 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at Martindale Country Club. Cost is $199, which includes lunch. This clinic is for boys and girls agaes 10-13.

The second clinic will be held July 28 to 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for boys and girls ages 6-9. the cost is $199.

There will be instruciong on full swing, chipping, putting, bunker play etiquette and on-course play each day. For more information, call 782-1107, ext. 2.
