FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington is offering a new, week-long Creative-Tech Summer Camp for high school-aged students fourteen to eighteen with an interest in creative media. This hands-on technology camp will help students learn, imagine, explore and create using the latest interactive media skills and techniques.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 13-17, in the SPVI Mac/Art Lab, room 222, UMF Merrill Hall, 224 Main St. Four one-day workshop style sessions will be taught by UMF faculty and staff from Monday-Thursday with a presentation on Friday afternoon for students to show their work at the Emery Community Arts Center on campus.
Day-long workshops include:
Mobile Apps – Create interactive apps for the Android platform using the latest mobile technologies. Devices will be provided for use during the workshop so students can create, test and share their app creations with others.
Interactive Electronics – Learn how to code Arduino microcontrollers to create programmable and responsive electronic devices that can operate sensors, lights and motors.
Stop Animation – Learn the basic techniques to prepare, time, photograph and compile a short stop animation film.
Digital Cinema – Use digital video to construct narrative and other forms of time-based media with a focus on camera and shot basics, digital video and sound editing.
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Registrations are now being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with limited openings.
