1916 – 2015

LISBON — Waneta H. Lagasse, 98, formerly of Gray, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 23, peacefully at home in Lisbon with her son, Charlie Lagasse, at her side.

Waneta was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Westbrook, to Nina Anderson and Frank Knight. She lived in and attended school in Gorham, and as a young teen, began to work in the hay fields and local canning factories. Her last job before becoming a stay-at-home mother was at S.D. Warren Co. in Westbrook.

A few years after her marriage to Roland Lagasse, the family moved to Gray, where she lived for nearly 45 years, before health required her to live with her children.

Waneta was active in church work and held many offices at the churches she attended. She was also a board member of the Christian Women’s Club that met at Cole Farms for several years.

Her main love was raising her family to know Christ and for each to become a positive influence to the world around them. Anyone who got to know her came to love her for her kindness and her godly wisdom.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Charles Knight and Eugene Knight, both of Gorham; and her sister, Flavilla Billings of Westbrook.

Waneta is survived by sister, Helen Borek of Homestead, Fla.; and her six children, Pauline Williams of Union, Leroy S. Morrill, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Gray, David Currier of Hawaii, Peter Lagasse and wife, Joy, of South Casco, Frank Lagasse and wife, Anita, of Burke, Va., and Charlie Lagasse and wife, Beth Ann, of Lisbon. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
