1938 – 2015

LEWISTON — Henry H. Jones, 77, of Lewiston passed away peacefully Sunday night, July 5, at his home.

He was born in Oglethorpe County, Ga., on April 3, 1938, a son of the late John H. and Mary (Chapman) Jones. He grew up in the area and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Westminster High School in Westminster, S.C.,

In 1960, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1966.

After his service in the military, Henry returned to Maine, spending many years working at the Bates Mill as the dye house supervisor until his retirement.

He had an incredible passion for working and being at the Riverside Flea Market on Route 196 in Lisbon. He was well known at the market and had made friends and memories there. He also had a strong love for his pets and enjoyed spending much time with them.

Henry is survived by his daughter, Mary Murphy and her husband, David, of Lewiston; his stepchildren, Linette Seaman and her husband, Mike, of Livermore, Tina McLean and her husband, Jerry, of Sabattus, Paul Killmeyer and his significant other, Gina Doughty, of Lewiston, and Sara Killmeyer of Sabattus. He also leaves behind his first wife, Shirley A. (Gamache) Jones; a sister, Betty Whitlock of Martin, Ga.; a brother, John F. Jones of Hainesport, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five nephews; and three nieces.

He was predeceased by his second wife, Shirley A. (Killmeyer) Jones; and a brother, William “Junior” Jones.

The family wishes to thank Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their devoted care and compassion shown to Henry in his final weeks, along with his granddaughter, Brandy, for her special care as one of his certified nursing assistants.
