Sons of Italy to meet
RUMFORD — The Sons of Italy Route 108 Rumford will have their regular meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26.
A light lunch will follow.
Participants are asked to bring a perennial plant for the landscaping project.
PERU — The Rumford Senior Center, 30 Main St., will attend a mystery trip Friday, July 31. The bus will leave from the old Peru school at 7 a.m.The cost is $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Participants must sign up by July 21. Lunch will be the responsibility of the participants. FMI: 207-562-7700.
The center has announced that the barbecue supper for Wednesday, July 29, has been canceled and will be rescheduled in August. The new date will be in the August newsletter. Those attending should call to let the staff know if they would like hamburgers, hot dogs or veggie burgers at 207-562-7700.
The center is also hosting a Christmas trip to the White Mountains on Dec. 4. The trip will be a three-day, two-night tour and include five meals, an Austrian sleigh ride and three shows. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the old Peru school.
Those planning on attending should sign up and place a $50 deposit by Sept. 10. The final payment will be due in October. The cost for a double is $389 per person, $369 per person for a triple and $489 per person for a single. Non-members are welcome.

Waste paint collection closes
RUMFORD — There will not be a waste paint collection at Sherwin Williams in Rumford after Saturday, Aug. 1. The Northern Oxford Regional Solid Waste is working on setting up a collection site at another location.

Contest seeks bearded men
BRIDGTON — The Village Folk Festival has announced its first-ever “Best Beards” contest Friday, Aug. 21, at the Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St.
Bob Casimirio will direct and manage the contest.
There will be three categories: “Best Big Beard,” “Best Sculpted Beard,” and “Best Mustache.” The entry fee is $5, and will be pooled for cash prizes for the winners.

Daughters say goodbye to leader
NORWAY — Members of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War Tents 8, 17 and 19 met at the First Baptist Church on Paris Hill to say goodbye to Marilyn Jones, president of Tent 19, Stoneham, and senior vice-president of DUVCW Department of Maine.
Marilyn will soon be moving to South Carolina to be near her family.
A dinner was served with a special cake.
