WILTON — The Bill Yates Memorial 10K and 5K road races and one mile Family Fun Run pay tribute to the late Dr. Bill Yates, a Wilton resident who was a driving force in organizing the Blueberry Festival 10K race and creating a certified course.

On Friday, Aug. 7, the fun starts with the one mile fun run and walk at 6 p.m. starting and ending at the Cushing School. The 10K and 5K races begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Garage on Weld Road, with the 10K looping around scenic, hilly roads near Wilson Lake before circling back and finishing at Cushing School.

In case of inclement weather, the races will take place Sunday, Aug. 9.

There will be age group prizes to the top male and female finishers in the 10K and 5K races, with categories of 13 and under, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. In the one mile, prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers 12 and under, and in the age group categories of 6 and under, 7-9, and 10-12.

The pre-registration fees, ending Aug. 7, are $20 for the 10K, $15 for the 5K, and $8 for the one mile run. Race day fees are $25 for the 10K, $20 for the 5K and $10 for the one mile run. People are encouraged to pre-register. Make checks payable to RunInARace.
