1926 – 2015

NORWAY — Donald C. Demarest, 89, of Bryant Pond, passed away Friday, July 31, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Donald was born in Plainville, Conn., on May 24, 1926, a son of Clarance and Elma Demarest. He attended Plainville schools and graduated from Plainville High School in 1944.

In July of 1944, Mr. Demarest entered the U.S. Navy and served two years, one of which was in the South Pacific in Guam. After his return from the Navy, he graduated from Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture at the University of Connecticut.

He was employed as farm manager at the Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Conn. for 13 years before moving to Bryant Pond, where he and his wife June purchased and operated HI-VU Farm for 18 years. He retired in 1985.

Donald enjoyed hunting, gardening, carving birds and the outdoors.

He is predeceased by his wife, June, who died on January 3, 2005; two brothers, Milton and Roland; and a sister, Phoebe.

Surviving are his three sons, Thomas of Bryant Pond, David of Oregon, and Peter of Bryant Pond; a brother, Gilly of Connecticut; a sister, Nancy Dellert of Connecticut; and four grandchildren.
