LEESBURG, Va. — William Robert Chouinard Sr. passed away on Friday, June 26, in Leesburg, Va., after a lengthy illness.

Bob was born Dec. 21, 1926, in Lewiston, the oldest of four children. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served for eight years through World War II and the Korean War.

Bob personally experienced two atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll while serving on the USS Fall River.

After leaving the Navy, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration, where he served as an air traffic controller and supervisor for over 30 years.

Once retired, Bob and Irene moved to the The Villages, Fla., where they lived for more than 20 years.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Irene; and by his sister, Dot; and his two brothers, Arthur and Paul.

Bob is survived by his only son, William “Bill” Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Nancee; two grandchildren, William III and Marcee; and three great-grandchildren.

He will be sorely missed, but he’s where he wants to be — with Irene.
