CASCO — Police said a 4-year-old boy from Gray died Tuesday morning when he was ejected from a car after it hit a telephone pole on Route 11.
Police said it’s not clear whether the boy, identified as Cameron Peterson, was in a child safety seat.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Minson, 28, of Gray was driving a Honda Civic west at around 5:55 a.m. when he lost control of the Civic after it passed another vehicle, crossed the centerline, left the road, struck a utility pole and split it in two.
Minson and the boy’s mother, Crystal Peterson, 27, also of Gray, were injured in the crash. Peterson sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bridgton Hospital, then to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Minson was transported to Maine Medical Center, according to a news release.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by crash reconstructionists from Windham.
