MEXICO — The Mexico Police Department will host a fundraiser softball game between the Mexico Explorers and a group of former Boston Red Sox players at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the River Valley Recreation Park, police Chief Roy Hodsdon said.
Hodsdon said that the game was originally scheduled for July 25, but had to be postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances with the Red Sox players.”
“Fortunately, we were able to schedule a new date, and the game will happen as planned,” Hodsdon said. “It should be a really good time.”
All money raised from the softball game will go toward the Mexico Explorers program, which provides educational training for young adults with various law enforcement objectives, including career orientation experience, leadership opportunities and community service activities.
In 2014, Hodsdon said that the Mexico Explorers faced off against several retired Boston Red Sox Players at a benefit basketball game.
“That game went over very well, so we’re expecting to get a good turnout for the softball game,” Hodsdon said.
