1952 – 2015

LEWISTON — On Friday, Aug. 14, heaven received its toughest angel in Theodore P. “Ted” Curran, 63, of Sabattus, who passed surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He was the husband of Helene T. (Potvin) Curran.

Ted was born April 29, 1952, in Lewiston, a son of the late Leo E. and Francoise (Veilleux) Curran. He met the love of his live, Helene, at St. Dominic High School; they married on Sept. 2, 1972, at St. Louis Church in Auburn.

Ted served in the U.S. Air Force, returned home and graduated from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute as a machinist. He worked nearly 40 years at Elmet Technologies. Ted was also a member of the Teamsters, a shop steward and won the world competition in Rome, Italy, on the “Maintenance Attack Team.” He also served the town of Sabattus as selectman and a member of the Recycling Committee.

Ted was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus. He looked forward to the weekly after-Mass breakfasts with his dear friends, Roger and Claire Gervais. He also enjoyed his lifelong friendship with Daniel Leblanc of Berlin, Mass., and working with Ronald Lessard.

Ted loved a good debate, but more so, his wife of almost 43 years, Helene. His greatest joy was walking at Reid State Park — or anywhere, for that matter — hand in hand with her.

Spending time with his grandkids was an important part of his life, as was proclaiming to dislike everyone — with Ted, you always knew how he felt and he showed with his actions the depth of his love. He was a proud man who lived to be the support and anchor of his family.

Besides his beloved wife, Helene, he is survived by his son, Steven Curran and his wife, Stacey, of Lewiston; and his daughter, Angela Duncan and her husband, Dimon, of Ostrander, Ohio. He also leaves his grandsons, Marc and Ethan Curran and Logan Duncan; his granddaughter, Metea Duncan; his sister, Agnes Perkins and her husband, Robert, of Carlisle, Pa.; his brothers, Jean-Paul Curran and his wife, Claudette, and Daniel Curran, both of Sabattus, Ronald Curran and his wife, Pauline, of Sebago, and Michel Curran and his wife, Lorraine, of Sabattus; his brother-in-law, Paul Potvin and his wife, Gloria Giroux, of Old Orchard Beach, Leo Potvin and his wife, Sandra, of Lewiston, and Arthur Potvin and his wife, Regina “Tina,” of Auburn; his sister-in-law, Louise Whalen and her husband, Gerald “Scott,” of Auburn, and Noella Potvin of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the uncle of the late Michael Potvin.
