WILTON — Selectmen awarded the contract to replace the roof, gutters and trim on the Senior Citizen Building in Kineowatha Park to Blodgett Builders of Wilton on Tuesday.
There were three bids: Leclerc’s Carpentry of Jay for $8,500; Don Macomber of Wilton for $9,000; and Blodgett Builders, which initially bid $8,500 and later changed it to $8,863.
Selectman Jeff Adams asked for an explanation.
Town Manager Rhonda Irish said she learned of the issue Tuesday afternoon. Recreation Director Frank Donald met with the three bidders and reviewed the job specifications with them and Blodgett’s bid did not include the gutters and trim. He added $363 to his bid to cover that work when Donald asked him verbally for it.
Selectman Scott Taylor said the bid process was poor.
Board members voted 4-1 to accept Blodgett Builders revised bid; Adams cast the dissenting vote.
In other business, the town received a bid on the Police Department’s 2011 Chevrolet Impala. It has 126,000 miles on it.
Chicago Motors of Chicago, Ill., submitted a bid of $3,507 for the vehicle. Irish said the company has been making a lot of calls to Wilton regarding the vehicle. She will make sure there will be no more cost to the town.
“If it doesn’t work out, I’ll bring this back to you,” she said.
Selectman Tiffany Maiuri said the vehicle was to be sold as is, where is.
The board unanimously voted to accept the bid.
