Auburn Fire Department hosting 9/11 memorial
AUBURN — The Auburn Fire Department will host a memorial ceremony in remembrance of the victims of 9/11 beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11.
The event will be open to the public and will take place at Central Station, 550 Minot Ave. There will be a meet and greet with refreshments beginning at 8 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. Brief speeches will be given by the Auburn fire chief, police chief and mayor. The Auburn Fire Honor Guard will perform a short ceremonial routine in recognition of their fallen brothers and sisters at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center.

CUMC hosting bean, casserole supper
LEWISTON — The Calvary United Methodist Church will host its monthly baked bean and casserole supper Saturday, Sept. 12.
Serving time will be 4:45 p.m. at the Bartlett Street Garden entrance.
Cost of the meal is $7.50 for adults and $3 for children.
The menu will include assorted baked beans, hot dogs, biscuits, casseroles (including vegetarian), salads and homemade pies.
Central Maine Heart Walk
AUBURN — The 17th Annual Central Maine Heart Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 13.
The walk is held to raise money to support the American Heart Association’s life-saving research and education. Event organizers have set a fundraising goal of $175,000 for this year’s event.
Events will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Riverwatch, 14 Great Falls Plaza.
From 9:15 to 9:45 a.m., there will be opening speeches and ceremonies with WMTW’s Tracy Sabol and WPOR’s Sarah Sullivan acting as masters of ceremonies.
At 9:45 a.m., participants have their choice of a 1-mile or 5K walk along the LA Trails Riverwalk.
There will be a “Kids Zone” that will include face-painting, a balloon artist and a craft project.
There will be hands-only CPR demonstrations at United Ambulance Service’s table.
Sunday School classes to begin
AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave., will begin Sunday School and youth classes on Sunday, Sept. 13. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. for all interested youth. Refreshments will be served.
