Crews of the Auburn Water District yesterday repaired a leak in a large gravity-fed line through which, Supt. L K. Parker reported, the city was losing more than a half-million gallons of water each day. On Sunday the situation was rectified when a split in a six-inch main at Court and Main streets was repaired. Parker said a four-foot section of the main was cut out and replaced. The main was cracked on the top and split on the bottom. Parker said that at first it was not known where on the gravity fed section the water was being lost. Clear water was found running into the river from an old overflow drain which normally is dry.

Those stacks of bricks that appeared along downtown Main Street in Lisbon Falls on Monday morning do not mean the concrete sidewalks are being repaved with bricks, according to Wayne York, public works director. After the concrete deteriorated and cracked or crumbled in some areas of the new sidewalks during the winter, the downtown executive committee met to discuss the situation. It was voted to change the driveway entrances to brick, which is not affected by road salt. The only other brick work to be added will be to extend the handicapped walkway along the south end of the Side Pocket across the sidewalk to the road, York said.
