MONDAY, Sept. 14

AUBURN — City Council special meeting and workshop, 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber on the second floor of Auburn Hall. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and the topic is a vote on a sales agreement for the old police station at 1 Minot Ave. The workshop follows and topics include a five-year plan, downtown revitalization measures, a discussion on priorities and performance measures.

LEWISTON — School Committee, 6:45 p.m., Dingley Building. Topics include approval of a plumbing program for Lewiston Regional Technical Committee, introduction of Ted Hall as proficiency-based learning consultant, discussion and first vote of delayed school starts in bad weather and discussion of televising School Committee meetings.

TUESDAY, Sept. 15

LEWISTON — Great Falls Forum, noon, Lewiston Public Library’s Callahan Hall. The 18th season of the Great Falls Forum opens with former Sen. George Mitchell talking about his recently published memoir, “The Negotiator.” The program is free and open to the public.

LEWISTON — City Council workshop and regular meeting, 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber on the bottom floor of City Hall. The workshop begins at 6 p.m. and topics include a submission for a Homeland Security grant and a review of a paid trash collection education program. The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. and topics include junkyard permits and funding for a passenger rail study.

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 16

AUBURN — School Committee regular meeting at 7 p.m., Auburn Hall, City Council Chamber. Agenda includes reviews of maintenance summer projects and review of AESOP, a company that manages Auburn School Department’s substitute placement and absences.

THURSDAY, Sept. 17

LEWISTON — Great Falls Forum, noon, Lewiston Public Library’s Callahan Hall. Kevin Lewis, CEO of Community Health Options, will be talking on “Moving Beyond Coverage Towards Reducing the Total Costs of Care.” The program is free and open to the public.

LEWISTON — Opening ceremonies for the Northeast Shrine Field Days, 6 p.m. in Veterans Park on Main Street in Lewiston. The public is invited.

SATURDAY, Sept. 19

AUBURN —  Northeast Shrine Field Days at the Auburn  Mall, beginning at 7 a.m. in the parking lot at the Auburn Mall. Motorized competitions begin at 7 a.m. featuring motorcycles, go-carts, cycles, minicars and other gasoline-powered Shriner units from around New England and Canada will compete. Shrine clowns will perform and demonstrate their craft in the mall beginning at 9 a.m.

LEWISTON — Northeast Shrine Field Days events downtown will feature performances by Shrine groups from around New England at Dufresne Park on Lisbon Street beginning at 9 a.m. The Shriner parade steps off at 2 p.m. at the city’s Public Works shops on Adams Avenue and winds its way around downtown over the next two hours.

SUNDAY, Sept. 20

LEWISTON — Annual Dash for Dogs 5K and Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk. Race begins at 9 a.m., walk at 9:30 a.m., at Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, 55 Strawberry Ave. Registration fees ($25 before Sept. 17) helps humane society care for animals. The course will include the new paved Greenway Trail near the river.
