DIXFIELD — The Regional School Unit 10 board Monday unanimously appointed elementary school teacher Kim Fuller as interim principal at Meroby Elementary School in Mexico.

Fuller, a 27-year education veteran, will serve for one year while the district searches for a new principal. She is a longtime literacy specialist with a master’s degree.

Former Principal Melanie Chasse left the district last week to become assistant superintendent for RSU 16 in Poland.

In other personnel changes, Helen Storer was appointed as a special education teacher at Rumford Elementary School. She has served as an educational technician for 19 years.

Also appointed was Jeffrey Pelletier as a mathematics teacher at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. Pelletier is a 2006 graduate of the school.

The board re-elected Bruce Ross of Dixfield as chairman and re-elected Jerry Wiley of Buckfield as vice chairman.

Director David Lynch of Sumner resigned because he moved out of the district. Selectmen are expected to appoint a successor soon.

In other matters, Mountain Valley Middle School Principal Ryan Casey received approval for 92 seventh-graders to attend the University of Maine 4-H Camp & Learning Center in Bryant Pond in October. Each child will pay $20 for the multiday team-building experience, with most of the $33,000 cost paid by grants.

Also on Monday, the board approved a three-year bond to buy two 77-passenger school buses and one 66-passenger bus for $261,200. The money will be borrowed from Bangor Savings Bank at 1.87 percent interest annually. The cost of the buses will be reimbursed by the state.

The board also approved converting two educational technician positions at Dirigo Elementary School in Peru to one fifth-grade teaching position for one year. At that time, the staffing will be re-evaluated.
