FAYETTE — Dean Pepper, owner of D.R. Pepper Wood Harvesting, was recently named Maine’s “Outstanding Logger” for 2015 by the Maine Forest Products Council.

Pepper, who comes from a logging family, was chosen for the distinction for his “exemplary on-the-ground performance and a strong commitment to meeting the management objectives of the landowner through innovation and sound business management.”

Pepper said he was honored by the award. “I would like to thank my parents for bringing me up around the forest industry and also my wife, Catherine, for helping me through the tough times.”

Maine’s outstanding logger must meet high standards for safety and protecting the environment, have great employee relations, show innovation and work well with landowners, among other traits, according to Maine Forest Products Council Executive Director Patrick Strauch.
