AUBURN — The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston has announced its October programs. All programs take place at 62 Turner St., unless specified otherwise.

Weigh to Go: Individuals 18 and older may shape up and slim down with certified Y trainers and nutritionists. This eight-week program offers support and education to achieve weight loss goals. Program begins Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Twin Cities Swim Team: Registration is open for the Competitive Y league for youths ages 5 to 18. An information meeting for parents will be offered Friday, Oct. 9. Practices begin Oct. 14.

Skills & Drills: Eight-week basketball instruction for children in Pre-K and kindergarten. Program runs Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:15 to 5 p.m. Registration opens Saturday, Oct. 10.

Lunch & Learn: Health Insurance Literacy with Lucy Beirne of Community Health Options will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. The cost is $5 per person, and registration is required. 

Home School Exercise: Home-schooling families can stay active while making new friends. This exercise is geared for home-schooled kids ages 4 to 15 and runs Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 26 through Dec. 16.

Biddy Basketball: This co-ed youth basketball program is offered for children in grades one to six. Registration is required by Thursday, Oct. 29, for team placement.

Halloween Party: Spooky activities, games and trick-or-treat bag decorating for children will be offered during a party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. It is free to attend and open to the public. 

Regular exercises include:

Y Wellness Walkers: This year-round social walking group explores local parks and neighborhoods, meeting from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Tabata: New to the group exercise rotation, Tabata is a high-intensity interval workout featuring elements of strength and cardio. It runs Wednesdays at noon.

Zumba Toning: Zumba toning is a new twist on the popular dance fitness class, for those who want to sculpt and tone. Wednesdays at 4 p.m.

Open Family Swim: For current Y members. Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Yoga for Athletes: Athletes enhance their performance in multiple sports with this tailored yoga program running at 5:15 p.m. Mondays.

Pilates/Barre: This full-body workout promotes a long and lean dancer look at noon Mondays.

Preregistration is required for most events and programs. Some fees apply, and financial assistance is available for qualifying individuals and families.
