JAY — Police say a Lewiston man turned himself in Saturday in connection with a hit-and-run early Thursday on Main Street.

Aaron Olsen, 23, told police the crash was related to distraction by cellphone use, detective Michael Mejia said.

Olsen received minor injuries to his head during the incident, he said.

Police had been looking for a Jeep Wrangler that struck a truck in a driveway on Main Street early Thursday and left the scene. A large piece of a black hardtop had broken off the Jeep during the incident, Mejia said Friday.

The truck was destroyed, he said.

Olsen contacted police after seeing a Sun Journal article about a hit-and-run, he said.

Olsen was charged with leaving the scene of a crash and a civil violation of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

He is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on Nov. 24.

Police returned to Olsen a box that fell from his vehicle during the crash, Mejia said.
