BETHEL — The SAD 44 board voted Tuesday evening to authorize Superintendent David Murphy to negotiate the purchase of property abutting the Telstar high/middle school athletic fields.
“The idea is that I would negotiate and try to find the best deal possible to purchase the land,” Murphy said. “After I had information, I would go back to the school board to report on what we came up with. They would have to make a decision on whether or not to move forward with it, and after that, the decision would be put before the people for a vote.
“Last night was really about seeing if there was any interest by the board in moving the ball down the field, so to speak,” Murphy added.
The land next to the athletic fields is owned by Conifer Corp.
In other business, the board voted to appoint Lois Ruff as its adult and community education director. Murphy said Ruff has been an adult education instructor since 2004, and has been the acting adult education director since July.
“At Tuesday evening’s meeting, the board gave her a two-year contract,” Murphy said.
