STRONG – A local man is facing drug charges stemming from an October incident involving a reported assault, according to a news release.

Maine State Police Trooper Randy Hall arrested Joseph Lagasse, 73, of Strong on Friday on a felony charge of possession of scheduled Z drug and misdemeanor counts of unlawful furnishing of a scheduled Z drug and assault.

Hall smelled marijuana while at Lagasse’s residence to check on a reported assault on Oct. 20 and saw a small baggie containing green marijuana on the table, according to the release.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Lagasse had given approximately six to eight pounds of marijuana to a family member, Hall stated.

Lagasse told Hall that he was trying to get rid of the marijuana. He gave Hall three shopping bags full of marijuana leaves which totaled 1.76 pounds, Hall wrote.

Lagasse has a prior felony cultivating charge.

He was being held Monday morning on $50,000 cash bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.
