AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced it’s December activities for kids.
Sprouts: Heather will lead a rousing lap-sit program for babies through 36-months and their caregivers from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. Saturdays, Dec. 5 and 12, in the Children’s Room. Participants will gather on the story quilt to hear stories, songs and nursery rhymes and may stay to play after the program.
Sweet Peas: Heather will lead another another lap-sit program for children ages 24 to 36 months and a parent from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays, Dec. 7 and 14, in the Children’s Room, sharing stories, songs, rhythm instruments, fingerplays and flannel board fun.
Pre-School Story Time: Children ages 3 to 5 (and experienced listeners who are almost 3) may hear stories, sing songs and make a craft at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 2, 9 and 16, in the Maggie Trafton Room.
KIDS! Read to a Dog: Susan Farrell and her therapy dog, Addie, visit the library the first Thursday of each month so that youngsters can practice their reading skills by reading to Addie. This month, they will visit from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the Children’s Room. Reservations for the 15-minute reading slot are required.
KIDS! LEGO Club: The monthly LEGO Club will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in the Maggie Trafton Room. The club is for kids ages 5 and older, and they only need to bring their imaginations. The library advises parents that small piece could present a choking hazard, so this program is not suitable for very young children.
DIY Tweens!: Kids can make a holiday ornament from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Space is limited. Please call the library at 333-6640 x3 to register.
Kids! Celebrate Christmas in French: As part of the Fun with French series, Doris Bonneau will present a special program on French Christmas traditions from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Bonneau will share stories, songs and traditional foods from France and Canada. Come learn how Christmas is celebrated in other countries. All are welcome.
KIDS! Make a Gingerbread House: Pat Masonheimer, Gabrielle Wallace and their family will lead children ages 3 to 12 in creating a gingerbread house of their very own from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Registration is required.
KIDS! Make-it Take-it Holiday Workshop: The library will host an informal drop-in holiday craft-making session from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. Kids can make holiday cards, small gifts and ornaments for their families for the holidays. All materials will be provided by the library for this free program.
KIDS! Music Together Demo: Caroline Coffin will lead the class for children ages 5 and younger from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, in the Maggie Trafton Room. Music Together is a research-based music and movement program designed to support the musical development of babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers. Registration is required.
FAMILIES! Hanukkah Concert: The library will celebrate Hanukkah with music and song at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, in the Androscoggin Community Room, welcoming back Rabbi Sruli Dresdner of Temple Shalom Synagogue and his wife Lisa for a Hanukkah concert. This is a family program suitable for all ages. Sruli and his wife Lisa are international Jewish performers and personalities, and have been featured on PBS-TV and National Public Radio. They have headlined at Jewish Festivals from Cracow, Poland to Jerusalem, Toronto to Texas.
KIDS! Big Kids’ Music Together Demo: Caroline Coffin will lead another Music Together class for children ages 5 to 7 from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Children’s Department. Recognizing that all children are musical, and can achieve basic music competence if exposed to the proper environment, Music Together provides a rich array of musical experiences to unlock their potential. Registration is required.
KIDS! Free Family Movie: The library will show “The Polar Express” at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, in the Androscoggin Community Room. This movie is based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. Snacks will be provided. Parents must remain with their children throughout the movie.
KIDS! Free Family Puppet Show: Sir Douglas, Cinnamon the Bunny, Sally and G-Riley will visit the library from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, in the Androscoggin Community Room. The family puppet show will have stories, songs and a giant chocolate chip cookie!
KIDS! BABY Parachute Play: Heather will lead a special parachute play for babies and toddlers ages 6 months to 2½ years from 9:30 to 10 a.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room. Registration is required.
KIDS! Parachute Play: Kids ages 4 to 8 can burn off some post-holiday energy with Heather during parachute play from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Space is limited, so registration is required.
KIDS! Vacation LEGO Club: There will be a special vacation LEGO club from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the Maggie Trafton Program Room. The program is not suitable for very young children.
The library will be close at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24 and will closed on Friday, Dec. 25, and Saturday, Dec. 26, in observance of Christmas.
The library will close at 1 pm on Thursday, Dec. 31, and be closed Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, in observance of New Year’s Day.
