Elks National Hoop Shoot
The Hoop Shoot, which is funded by the Elks National Foundation, the largest non-profit youth activities in the nation, with two million children participating this year.
The Farmington Elks hoopsters will be competing at the Dearborn Gymnasium at the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday, Dec. 5. Sign-ups and warm-ups will begin at 8:30 a.m. The program is offered to boys and girls from ages 8 to 13.

Winners of the local competition will advance to the regional competion on Jan. 10, 2016 at Madison Elementary School, 43 Learners Lane, Madison. The state competion will be held at Bangor High School on Jan. 31. All state winners will advance to the New England competition in Portland on March 18 and 19. New England finalists will compete in the national competition in Chicago on April 15 and 16. National champs will be inscribed in the Basketall Hall of Fame. The winners of two Mainers are there.
Score a strike for brain injuries
The Brain Injury Association of America — Maine Chapter (BIAA – ME) — is participating in its inaugural Bowling for Brain Injury event. This is the signature fundraising event for the Brain Injury Association.
When: Sunday, Dec. 6 from noon – 2 p.m. (registration is open).
Where: Spare Time Portland, 867 Riverside St., Portland.
