Grange to honor Officer of Year

BRYANT POND — Franklin Grange 124 will host an open meeting and reception to honor Maine State Grange Police Officer of the Year, Jim Miclon, on Friday, Dec. 11.

Members of Franklin Grange nominated Miclon for this annual award, recognizing his many years in law enforcement. Officers of the Maine State Grange will be in attendance. This event is open to the public.

The award was officially made at the annual session of the Maine State Grange, and this meeting will provide other emergency responders as well as the public the opportunity to congratulate Miclon on this achievement.

Franklin Grange is located near the Woodstock Fire Station and library next to the Masonic Hall.

Kids to shop at Santa’s Workshop

WILTON — Santa’s Workshop will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 59 High St.

Annually, on the second Saturday in December, St. Luke’s provides area children with an affordable alternative for gift shopping during the holidays. Adults can enjoy complimentary refreshments in “Santa’s Kitchen” while youth shop for new and gently used items to give loved ones.

No items are priced at more than $1, and kids receive free, custom gift-wrapping before leaving Santa’s Workshop.

AARP holiday meeting planned

PARIS — The holiday meeting of the Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will be held on Monday, Dec. 14, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street.

Lunch will be served at noon and will feature chicken pie. Reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, Dec. 11.

The meeting will begin at 12:45 p.m., where volunteer hours should be turned in and donations for the Food Pantry will be taken. There will be no meeting in January, but the program committee would welcome any ideas for planning future programs.

The winter weather cancelation policy is to meet the following day, on Tuesday, during December, February and March. Cancelations will be announced on radio station WOXO 92.7 or if school has been canceled.

Historical Societies to meet

MEXICO — Members of the Rumford and Mexico Historical societies will meet  for a Christmas potluck supper at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the Calvin Lyons Room of the Mexico Town Hall.

All members and their guests are asked to bring a favorite dish to share. Beverages and tableware will be provided.

The societies request that attendees please bring a nonperishable food item for donation to the local food bank in lieu of exchange of gifts.

In the event of school cancelation due to inclement weather, the supper will be canceled.

Christian Women United luncheon

PARIS — Christian Women United will hold its Christmas luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at South Paris Congregational Church, East Main Street.

SMAE Family Holiday Party

LIVERMORE FALLS — Spruce Mountain Adult Education will host a Family Holiday Party from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 9 Cedar St.

Party-goers will play reindeer games, decorate cookies, read festive books and make an Olaf toy to bring home.

The event is free and open to the public.
