JAY — Police said a local man is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend and choking her Saturday after a verbal dispute in Jay.

Kyle Medcoff, 25, was arrested Sunday on a felony charge of domestic violence aggravated assault, Police Chief Richard Caton IV said Wednesday.

A conviction carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Medcoff is accused of hitting the female in the face with an open hand and choking her, Caton said. She had bruises on her bottom lip and left side of her neck, but refused medical treatment, he said.

Medcoff was arrested without incident at a relative’s house in Livermore Falls.

He was released Tuesday from the Franklin County jail in Farmington on $2,500 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court May 3.

Officer Dylan Rider was assisted in the investigation by Jay Sgt. Russell Adams and Livermore Falls police.
