NEWRY – The Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 Tuesday evening to appoint Laura Lowell as Med-Care Ambulance service representative.

Town Administrator Amy Bernard said Lowell replaces Anita Clark.

“After Anita went to the last Med-Care meeting, she expressed that she doesn’t want to serve as Med-Care representative anymore,” Bernard said. “She’s going to connect with Laura within the next 30 days to prepare her to be representative.”

In other business, selectmen voted unanimously to allow Bernard to pursue a contract with Great Falls Security Systems for a new system that will alert police if someone breaks into the Town Office.

Bernard said the current Town Office security system “will make a lot of noise, but it’s not going to get any police officers to the building,” she said.

She contacted Great Falls Security Systems, who said it would be cheaper to install a new system than have their technicians learn the old system.

Bernard said a new system would cost $1,395 for installation, and $240 a month for the dispatch connection.

Selectman Jim Largess said the price “seemed reasonable.”

Chairman Gary Wight asked Bernard how to pay for it, because the 2016-17 budget will be voted on March 8.

Bernard said they could use the building maintenance account.

“You just have to give me the go-ahead to enter an agreement with Great Falls,” she said.

The board voted 3-0 to do so.
