1931 – 2016

SCARBOROUGH — Anthony G. Soychak, 85, died March 17, 2016 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, Maine.

He was born in Lisbon Falls, Maine on March 3, 1931; a son of the late John and Mary (Pavelko) Soychak. Anthony served in the United States Army in Germany after WWII and received the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He then obtained a bachelors degree from the University of Maine at Orono and a Masters degree in mathematics from Bowdoin College. Anthony taught at Lisbon Falls High School and was a professor of mathematics at the University of Southern Maine until he retired.

Anthony was an active outdoorsman, avid fisherman and hunter. He spent many hours with his brothers fishing and hunting and was very proud of his Slovak heritage. Moosehead River was his favorite location and in his later years, he lived on a property in Rockwood, right on the river.

Anthony is survived by his four daughters, Monica Nadler and her husband Timothy of Lexington, MA; Amanda Repsher and her husband Dave of Silverthorne, CO; Cecilia Owens and her husband Scott of Westborough, MA and Antonia Soychak of Toronto, ON; three grandchildren, Emily, Sarah and Jack; two siblings, Bernadette Stewart and Francis Soychak; and his ex-wife Jacqueline Soychak of Woburn, MA. He was predeceased by his brothers John, Joseph and Thomas, and his sister Agnes.
