1931 – 2016
KENNEBUNK — June White, 84, of Kennebunk passed away on Tuesday, March 22, at her home, following an extended illness. She was in the presence of her three sons and several grandchildren.
Born in Lewiston on Sept. 28, 1931, to the late Gracienne (Paré) Helms and Raymond Helms Sr., June was the eldest of five children. The family spent many summers at Tacoma Lake. June attended the St. Joseph’s School in Lewiston, Lewiston High School, and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland. She worked as a registered nurse at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, Togus Veterans Medical Center, Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., and 30 years as the night supervisor at the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Mass.
June was married to the late Glenn R. White, former principal of the East Gloucester Elementary, Eastern Avenue, and West Parish schools in Gloucester, Mass. She was a member of the Mercy Hospital Alumni Association, the Addison Gilbert Alumnae Association, the Gloucester Women’s Club, and the North Shore Horticultural Society.
Her volunteer work included the Cape Ann Open Door and Food Pantry, the AARP Money Management Program, and the Port O’Call consignment shop. In 2010, she moved from Gloucester, Mass., to Kennebunk to be near her family. June’s passions were her family, friends, travel, her gardens and books, especially mysteries.
June was predeceased by her husband; parents; her brothers, Robert Helms and Raymond Helms Jr.; and a sister, Joyce Spencer.
She is survived by her children, Scott White of Gloucester, Mass., Dana White of Kennebunk, and Brian White and his wife, Amber, of San Carlos, Calif.; nine loving grandchildren (Neal of Minneapolis, Minn., Maura of San Francisco, Calif., Luke of Naples, Fla., Drew and Annalise of Gloucester, Mass., Gabrielle June, Courtney and Kaya of Kennebunk, and Brandon of San Carlos, Calif.; sister, Rejane Rodenbeck of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sister-in-law, Nancy Helms of Lewiston; sister-in-law, Norene (White) Tarr of Richmond, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
