DIXFIELD — The Regional School District 10 board Monday extended the contract for Superintendent Craig King for an additional year.

His salary will be determined at a later time.

Also Monday, the board heard a presentation by two teachers who led the Village Team program comprised of 50 third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Dirigo Elementary School. The program aims to improve attendance and help ensure success when the students enter middle school.

Principal Charles Swan said the program was developed several years ago because of concern for a group of children.

“We believe all children can learn,” he said.

He said a group of teachers from South Dakota visited the program a couple of years ago. A special education teacher has joined the Village Team for the after-school programming, he said.

Similar special assistance is offered at other schools in the district.

The board also continued developing a 2016-17 budget and is expected to decide on an amount at its next meeting April 11.

The budget for this fiscal year, which ends June 30, is $37.1 million.

Public hearings on the 2016-17 budget are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. May 18 at Dirigo Elementary School and May 19 at Buckfield Junior-Senior High School.

The public will vote on the budget at 6:30 p.m. May 25 at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. The budget will go to a referendum in all 12 district towns June 14.
