TURNER — Town Manager Kurt Schaub provided a document at Monday night’s selectmen’s meeting outlining concerns regarding School Administrative District 52’s vote to sell 73 acres to the town of Greene.

According to Schaub, “The board’s interest was heightened when it learned that the sale price for the 73-acre parcel was set at $41,000, yet its acquisition price in the early 1990s was in the neighborhood of $80,000, and it is valued by Greene’s assessors at $73,000.”

Turner is one of three towns in the SAD, including Leeds and Greene.

The land was originally purchased by the SAD with plans to build a new school on it, but the existing school was renovated instead.

Concerned that the SAD may not be getting an appropriate price for the land, the board went into executive session to discuss the matter further.

Fire Chief Rodney Guptill reported his department responded to 16 calls in March. He said the estimate to repair the leak on the tanker was $1,500.

Selectman Kevin Nichols made a motion to award the 2016 mowing bid to Berube’s Complete Lawn Care of Litchfield, provided the company present proof of workers’ compensation insurance. Selectman Denis Richard seconded the motion.

Berube’s was the second-lowest bid, but mention was made of its superior equipment and manpower, and the motion passed 5-0.

Nathan Pack thanked the board for allowing Boy Scout Troop 187 to hold a fundraiser at the Transfer Station on Saturday. Pack said $1,300 was raised.

The next Board of Selectmen meeting is at 6 p.m., April 18, at the Town Office.
