1936 – 2016

MONMOUTH — James C. Gilley Sr., 80, a resident of Route 135, Monmouth, died on Thursday, April 7, at his home.

He was born in Augusta on March 22, 1936, the son of Herman J. and Helen (Mills) Gilley. He was educated in the Hallowell school system. On Nov. 22, 1958, he married Lorraine H. Whitten in Hallowell. She passed away in 2003. James worked at the Taylor Shoe Shop, Lipman Poultry and D & S Pump in West Gardiner.

He is survived by three sons, James Gilley Jr. and his wife, Patti, of Berwick, Jeff Gilley and his wife, Peggy, of Monmouth, and Gary Gilley and his wife, Kathy, of Vienna; two daughters, Donna Tims-Jones and her husband, Greg, of Hartford, and Linda Campbell of Lewiston; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Gilley and his wife, Lois, of Gardiner; his sister, Margaret Wilson and her husband, Jerry, of Illinois; sisters-in-law, April Mathieu and her husband, Lorien, of Sabattus, Pam Kennerson and her husband, Roy, of West Gardiner, and Priscilla Wing and her husband, Larry, of Winthrop.

He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Gilley.
