FARMINGTON — The Regional School Unit 9 board of directors voted 9-4 Tuesday to expel a Mt. Blue High School student accused of distributing pot brownies on school property for the rest of the school year, Superintendent Tom Ward said.
“We’re going to work with him so he can continue his education and be ready to start school next year,” he said.
Opposing the expulsion were Jennifer Pooler of New Sharon, Keith Swett of Wilton, Robert Patterson of Industry and Iris Silverstein of Farmington, Ward said.
In favor were Chairwoman Jennifer Zweig Hebert of Starks, Vice Chairwoman Betsey Hyde of Temple, Richard Hargreaves of New Vineyard, Cherianne Harrison and Angela LeClair, both of Wilton, Tami Labul and Nancy Porter, both of Farmington, Craig Stickney of Chesterville, and Helen Wilkey of Vienna.
Absent were Ryan Morgan and Ken Charles, both of Farmington, and Nancy Crosby of Weld.
The student also faces a criminal drug charge.
Farmington police charged the 17-year-old from Wilton with felony aggravated furnishing of a schedule Z drug, Deputy Police Chief Shane Cote said.
The teen is scheduled to appear June 9 in Juvenile Court in Farmington.
