I read the Associated Press article “Anti-gay activist pushes for vote” in the Sun Journal (April 7). The activist’s petition seeks to change the wording in the Maine Human Rights Act, removing references to sexual orientation.

To me, in this day and age, people should have evolved enough to realize that, as human beings, we are all created equal. Fortunately, I believe that the majority of people believe in following the Golden Rule.

But I feel that some people, because of fear and lack of understanding about love and true equality of all people, are unable to grow.

I encourage the majority of the public to please not sign that petition that will be circulated in the near future. I’ll bet that most everybody knows some wonderful people who would suffer terribly if those backing the petition have their way.
