1941 – 2016

AUBURN — Edward B. Hinkley, 75, of Poland died Saturday, April 23, at the Hospice House, with his family by his side.

Born in Lewiston on April 1, 1941, he was the son of Charles L. and Florence J. (Pelletier) Hinkley. Ed was raised by his loving Uncle Chuck and Aunt Edna (Mom) Roehrig and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1959.

Edward was a hard worker and super motivated to be successful. He worked through his junior and senior years of high school at Lipman Poultry. Ed completed a technical training degree in industrial engineering and worked as an industrial engineer in the textile and shoe industries.

Edward served in the U.S. Army as a motor pool supervisor and was assigned to Munich and Berlin, Germany, where he spent time guarding the Berlin Wall. Ed was honorably discharged Oct. 31, 1969.

After returning from Germany, Edward resumed his employment as an industrial engineer in the shoe industry, until he went into business as owner and operator of Vincent Fruit Co. on Lincoln Street, Lewiston, until his retirement in August 2012.

Edward married his first wife, Gaetane (Therrien) Dumont, in Lewiston on April 27, 1973. Tragically, Gae passed away in June 2004. Ed found happiness and love again and married his current wife, Lois (Kenfield) Cole, on Aug. 9, 2008.

Edward owes his 45 years of happiness on Tripp Lake to his Uncle Chuck and Aunt Ruth who introduced him to the beauty there. Ed also enjoyed kayaking, biking and walking along the shore road, cribbage and his special “poker nights with the boys.”

Ed belonged to the Ancient York Rights Temple of Lisbon Falls, the Kora Shriners, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lewiston Senior Citizens. He was a past board member of the Tripp Lake Association and will always be remembered as “the ad man.”

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Lois, of Poland; daughters, Suzanne (Jim) Morin of Lewiston, Diane (Rudy) Silva of California, Christine (Dave) Poulin of Lewiston; grandchildren, Chad (Heidi) Morin, Kel (Melina) Morin, Christopher Poulin, Francisco Silva and Gaetane Silva; great-grandchildren, Brielle, Brady and Colby Morin; stepchildren, Shannon Bacallao of Auburn, Jim (Megan) Cole of Chicago; and step-grandchildren, August Bacallao and Grayson Dubick.

Besides his parents and aunt and uncle, Edward was predeceased by his loving first wife, Gaetane; a half-brother, Larry Hinkley; and a granddaughter, Gloria Silva.
