1928 – 2016

AUBURN — Willie G. Girardin, 87, of Auburn and formerly of Lewiston, died Wednesday, April 20, at Clover Health Care. He was the husband of the late Doris C. (Charest) Girardin.

He was born in Lewiston on May 22, 1928, a son of the late William and Alexina (Goudreau) Girardin. He grew up on Old Greene Road in Lewiston, attended schools in Lewiston, didn’t graduate from high school but later got his GED in the service. In 1946, he joined the U.S. Navy, served two years, followed by four years with the U.S. Army. In 1952, he re-entered the service in the U.S. Air Force serving 15 years before retiring. His tours in the service include England, Alaska and Greenland and he spent time as an MP in Switzerland.

He worked at Supreme Slipper and later VIP before his retirement. Willie enjoyed bowling, playing cards and skiing; he was even a member of the ski patrol.

He is survived by his three children, Linda Johnson and her fiancé, Steve Erikson, of Poland, Roger Girardin of Lewiston, and Mark Girardin and his wife, Pam, of Lewiston. He also leaves 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Jacqueline Dumont of Lewiston; a brother, Paul Girardin and his wife, Joyce, of Greene; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late Steve Girardin who died in 1970.
